Application Procedures for Students Outside the UK

If you are abroad, how do you join Anglian College London?  Overseas students may apply online or by post according to their preference.  However, online application is simpler, more straightforward, and less time-consuming.

The Admission Process:

Step 1 - Student selects course and sends in completed AF-501

You know your own background better than anyone else.  Visit pages in this website and make up your mind which course is suitable for you.  For example, if you have just completed High School Leaver exams in your home country, it might not be a good idea to apply for a degree programme.  Go through the Courses pages to identify your course.  Then apply online, or download the form as a pdf file and submit that.  Please keep the information accurate since you may be asked later to produce evidence for whatever you filled in.  Also at this stage please indicate clearly whether you need accommodation; if so you will need to pay extra for that later.

Step 2 - College checks form and sends Offer Letter

The College's Application and Assessment Board will go through your completed form and assess your eligibility for the course(s) you picked.  We decide on the spot for students (or their representatives) who visit the College Admissions (with an appointment and the necessary documents).  Distant applications will be sent an acknowledgement of receipt by Admissions, followed by an Offer of a Place letter in the desired course to successful applicants.
The Offer Letter will contain important instructions for you, notably about payment.

Step 3 - Student accepts offer and makes payment

Prospective students who wish to accept the offer of place must pay the sum requested on the Offer Letter.  That sum is nowadays generally 100% of the tuition fees for the first year or for the full course on some 2-year programmes.  Paying all this money up front may appear more painful than doing so by instalments, but it actually works to the advantage of most students, because (a) it lays out the total cost clearly to a bank or other source of funds, and (b) it makes visa applications go more smoothly by demonstrating your full commitment and ability to afford the course.  Then you return the signed document to the College, as suggested in the letter.  Any remaining unpaid balance of your first year's fees must be settled before your College registration can proceed, in which case you must either bring cash or come to the College at least one week before your course starts in time for other forms of payment to be cleared.

Step 4 - College sends Visa Letter

Upon receipt and clearance of your payment, the College will send you a proper formal letter titled "Admission to Anglian College London". British embassies and consulates overseas expect to see the original paper version of this letter, as an essential part of a prospective student's application for a UK student visa.

Step 5 - Student applies for a UK Visa

A student should, by this time, have put a financial arrangement in place for coming to the UK.  You go to the nearest British consulate or embassy with all financial, sponsorship and College documents and/or emails and apply for an Entry Clearance Certificate i.e. a visa.

You are strongly advised to notify the College of the results of your visa application at the earliest opportunity.  If you fail to obtain a visa, and then ask for a refund of your payment made during the admissions procedure (less the administration fee), you absolutely must return all original documents sent by the College along with the original office letter of visa rejection from the British Embassy or Consulates.  Make sure that if the consulate or embassy rejects your application they also give you back any original letters and documents sent by the College.  If they do not it may delay your refund substantially.

Step 6 - Student, now in UK, registers on a programme of study

Having obtained a visa and arrived in the UK, you need to report to the College promptly, make any remaining payment, and then complete the registration formalities no later than one week before the course applied for commences.  All students must register with their awarding bodies within two weeks of their registration at the College if they have not already done so. They must also pay their awarding bodies for the examinations of modules that are going to be taught during term-time following the registration. As part of the contractual agreement during the admission process, the student must proactively complete this process.  This is when all the necessary documentation is carried out and the student is given a proper College ID card.
