Apply for Your National Insurance Number
If you wish to work part-time in the UK, almost all employers will ask for your National Insurance (NI) card or number. The NI number is issued by the Department of Work and Pensions through its Social Security arm.

There used to be a Catch 22 situation where employers would not give you jobs if you did not have an NI number, while Social Security would not issue you an NI Numberif you were not about to start a job or had not been offered a job.
However, things are better now. Social Security will issue you with an NI card if you are a student of Anglian College London and you meet the following criteria:
- You have a valid registration certificate from the College
- You have a valid passport with valid student visa
- You telephone them in advance to book an appointment for a NI interview
Let us get it started!
So, the first thing to do, if you want an NI card, is to pick up the phone, dial the number for a local Job Centre and book an appointment. Get your passport ready, plus your college registration certificate (ID card optional), and the job offer letter if you have one.
Visit the Job Centre (the one in Tooting is quite popular: Tooting Jobcentre, 67 Upper Tooting Road, SW17 7TN, Tel: 020 8218 4400) and attend the interview well in time.
Receive your NI card by post.
